Welcome to the AFA North Central Region. The Region consists of the States of Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Montana is the home of the Big Sky Chapter # 108 and the 341st Missile Wing at Malmstrom AFB. North Dakota has three AFA Chapters. The General David C Jones Chapter #135 supports the men and women of the 5th Bomb Wing and the 91st Missile Wing at Minot AFB. The Red River Chapter #140 is located with the 319th Air Refueling Wing at Grand Forks, AFB. The Happy Hooligan Chapter #132 supports our Air National Guard of the 119th Wing in Fargo. Sioux Falls, South Dakota is home to the Dacotah Chapter # 229 and the 114th Fighter Wing of the South Dakota Air National Guard. Across the State in Rapid City is the Rushmore Chapter # 228 in support of the 28th Bomb Wing at Ellsworth, AFB. The General EW Rawlings Chapter supports the 133rd Airlift Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard and the 934th Airlift Wing US Air Force Reserve located adjacent to the Minneapolis Airport. The second Chapter in Minnesota is located in Duluth. Here we have the Richard I Bong Chapter #226 supporting the 148th Fighter Wing Minnesota Air National Guard. Wisconsin has one Chapter in Milwaukee supporting the 128th Air Refueling Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard and the 440th Airlift Wing US Air Force Reserve. National Health Care and Its Effect on Tricare If you’ve been reading or watching the news in recent weeks, you’ve undoubtedly heard a great deal about efforts in Congress to enact new laws that would dramatically alter our nation's health care apparatus. Many of our members have contacted us to ask about the new plan and its implications for active-duty personnel, retirees, and family members who are provided care under the TRICARE program. Our answer: the best way to ensure national health reform doesn’t subsume TRICARE is to make your voice heard in the halls of Congress. Though there are no specific provisions that affect TRICARE, and many prominent Members of Congress and staff have given assurances that TRICARE will not be folded in, skeptics remain. The Air Force Association is pleased by developments that have delayed action until after the August recess, and we hope that remaining ambiguities on the effects of this plan on TRICARE will be addressed before any legislation passes through the houses of Congress. AFA believes that TRICARE is an earned benefit that should not be folded into a ‘one size fits all’ scheme that does not consider the extraordinary sacrifices that military servicemembers and families make on behalf of our Nation. If we truly believe that military service is an exceptional calling, and we respect the oath that these brave men and women take, surely we will honor their service with an exceptional provision of care.
